Oh how true

It never sticks to one thing as I swear it used to when I was school age. I was able to focus better then.

Nowadays it's start something, then my mind just wanders off without me! But then sometimes, (sometimes!) It brings around some interesting ideas to try out that previously hadn't thought about.

It's then a case of trying to ensure my sketchbook doesn't fall behind and sticks up to date with where an idea is going and came from. Which is tough going sometimes!

Colin Johnstone - 'The romance of Iron and Cortisone'

Went into see Johnstone's exhibition at the Custom House.

"New furniture has no character whereas old furniture always has a past. New furniture is always mute, but old furniture can almost talk. You can hear it talking about the good times and troubles it's seen" - Richard Brautigan, taken from Johnstone's gallery leaflet.

The sentiment of that I can connect with, especially with my recent works.

"You could say my work is about that old furniture. And there is another name for it- nostalgia... Johnstone continues to make work that occupies a space between old and new, complete and fragmented, hand-made and reproduced. He finds neutral territory and re-presents images and objects of the everyday in a way that brings new meaning and possibilities to the viewer." - extract from Johnstone's gallery leaflet

Non existent semester

The long and short of it is my Mother has secondary breast cancer and will not be better. This has come after a previous 10 year battle with the big C and has understandably, been quite a struggle to come to terms with.

Therefore my concentration and any motivation for coursework has evaded me these past few months.

Hence why there really hasn't been just a huge lot of content on my blog these past few months!!

I am totally out of my comfort zone not meeting deadlines. I have always worked hard to keep goals no matter what was occurring in my personal life but this has turned our lives upside down.

Attention now for everyone at the college is of course deadline day on Friday and I have only the module to submit on time. My creative practice and writings will follow within my mitigating circumstances period.

It is odd watching from the sidelines, this chaos of folk rushing around trying to get every detail to come together in time. I do feel very much in limbo with it all.

It's now a case of solo work over the 'break' to complete the second half of third year. I'm unsure of my direction of creativity but I am sensing a layering perhaps of these thoughts and feelings of my personal goings on with my very structured artwork approach.

Finally got one!!

That is, a good photograph of swallows. Notoriously difficult to photograph, I caught this with my iPhone!

Sitting on an aerial just above my front door

They are nesting in a shed just opposite my front door, so hoping to get an even better snap...watch this space!

Out to westray for the weekend to visit my sister. Lovely jaunt out for a change of scenery.

Not just quite tropical weather but very photographic nonetheless!
