On a cold Thursday in October

Perfect for going to drafty farm museums!
Corrigall farm museum
Gold old box bed!
This is a balloon kids wid have played with but only gifted once a year. This was due to the balloon being a blown up pigs bladder! So when it burst would have to wait a whole year till the next slaughter to get another.

Peat fire
A mouse trap and an efficient one at that no escape when that stone dropped down!

Kirbuster museum which is far older than Corrigall.
Whalebone archway
No memory foam mattresses here!

A very simplistic game - each shell is meant to represent an animal. Needs a bit of imagination!

And I found proper snorrie bones!

Was nice being a tourist!

Puttering about

This is what I did this morning. I would put some description with this all but I don't really know what I am doing myself. Projected film on the big screen. Copied the lines onto paper, always seen then as quite landscape like. Connecting the idea of orkney traditions eg the snorrie bone, to orkney eg the landscape. Very minimalistic on the black paper but very effective I feel.

Laura drever 'skein' exhibition

Bit of a block

It's this getting started business that's not easy! But the worst thing you can do is nothing so I've gone back through my sketchbooks from years gone past to inspire me

Zines

Been quite taken with this 'zine' idea and now that I have internet access at home now I have done a bit of researching into it.

"A zine - pronounced zeen - derived from magazine - is an independently- or self-published booklet, often created by a single person. Zines are customarily created by physically cutting and gluing text and images together onto a master flat for photocopying, but it is also common to produce the master by typing and formatting pages on a computer. The end product is usually folded and stapled. Zines can be printed and bound in any manner" (http://zinewiki.com/Zine 6/10/14)

May try making some of my own and leaving them about the place.... watch this space ;)

Sober for October

31 days alcohol free and get a few pennies for Macmillan, it's a win-win. http://www.gosober.org.uk/profile/kirstinwishart follow the link to give a few pounds to a great cause

Stromness jaunt

Pier arts centre visit first- walk and talk around the current exhibition. Then discuss about the show in January, well I thought January but it's looking like 16th Febuary. So that's something to work towards! Then a look at the Pier Groups work up the stairs and learnt about 'Zines' which may be something to look further into.
Then after an eventful lunch break of doing a good deed for the day - poor elderly man was violently sick and helped him inside the lifeboats office and get clean klaze from the charity shop- Over to the Stromness Musuem which I haven't been in since primary school I reckon so was nice to wander around

Pattern cutting

Had a workshop on pattern cutting run by Kirsteen Stewart the other day- was interested in learning a bit about it so went along. Was a lot of thinking required and mentally exhausted by the end of it!
