Window display in Kirkwall

Kirkwall is to have its own Open Window display following in the footsteps of two successful years of the project in Stromness.

I am part of a 30-strong artist project displaying work in local shop windows. I have been given a window space in 'Blue Joes' and went along today to discuss the display with the owner Brian.

So my plan is to frame the negative image of my framed one as seen in the picture and hang it above where that one is just now and also scan my Photogram images and have them in the glass cabinet too. Filling up the window completely. I had really only planned to put up just that framed picture but Brian was happy to have all works up, so I am too!

Update

Blog entries have perhaps been a sparse lately! But this is due to trying to raise a social media profile on the platforms of Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for my Degree Show.

It's quite a balancing act maintaining content on the social media platforms, of current goings on within my art practice and the actual undertaking of the creative practice.

'Memories of Paintings'

If you need just a few minutes to relax then watch this video http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2016/03/memories-of-paintings-thomas-blanchard/

It's one of those things could happily sit and watch for hours and not even notice the time going past.

Claire Gee exhibition

A quick trip into the museum to see Claire Gee's painting exhibition.

Refreshing to see works created not using expensive, exclusive materials. Gee uses leftover paint from friends emulsion house paint and varnish. Very interesting forms created with her works. Her own theme of automatic painting

Abstract video

A link to a very abstract video I seen on Instagram this morning. Not quite sure how it's done, unless it's filmed down a kalidesope perhaps

Experiments

Been playing around with lots of different mediums of late, including in the darkroom. I can direct you to fellow student Norna's blog who kept a good set of notes and took a few photos too - just so I can prove I was there!

I haven't got any of the finished photograms I did in the darkroom, as had to leave them to dry, so will be after the weekend before I will have them in my posession.

Also been experimenting with Bubble wrap and a needle syringe! Very theraputic I must say, but does make a few folk uncomfortable, due to the sensation of the cold liquid within sealed pouches and also needles. A sterile, medical feel to the pieces
